Streaks for a Cure
Clackamas High School senior Nikki Owens chose Komen Oregon as the subject of her Senior Seminar Exhibition Project. Her aunt is a two-time breast cancer survivor, so Komen's missio
n is important to Nikki and her family. For her project, Nikki had to impact or help the community in some way. She decided to create an event called "Streaks for a Cure", where event participants could choose to pay to receive a pink streak in their hair, pink manicure or pedicure at a local salon.
Cosmetology students donated their time to provide the manicure/hair services at a local salon; proceeds were donated to Komen Oregon.
Nicki also provided breast health education materials to event participants in an effort to increase breast cancer awareness in her community. Nikki's event was a big success, raising $1,089.60 for the local Komen Affiliate in just two days! (Pictured above: local high schoolers participating in Streaks for a Cure.)
