Streaks for a Cure

Clackamas High School senior Nikki Owens chose Komen Oregon as the subject of her Senior Seminar Exhibition Project. Her aunt is a two-time breast cancer survivor, so Komen's mission is important to Nikki and her family.

For her project, Nikki had to impact or help the community in some way. She decided to create an event called "Streaks for a Cure", where event participants could choose to pay to receive a pink streak in their hair, pink manicure or pedicure at a local salon.

Cosmetology students donated their time to provide the manicure/hair services at a local salon; proceeds were donated to Komen Oregon.

Nicki also provided breast health education materials to event participants in an effort to increase breast cancer awareness in her community. Nikki's event was a big success, raising $1,089.60 for the local Komen Affiliate in just two days! (Pictured above: local high schoolers participating in Streaks for a Cure.)
