KOMEN’S 2009 LUNCH FOR THE CURE® RAISES $132,000 The Organization’s Second Largest Annual Fundraiser a Great Success
November 16, 2009 – The Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to announce that their second largest annual fundraiser, Lunch for the Cure, raised $132,000 this year.
Held at The Nines Hotel in downtown Portland, the fundraising luncheon was well attended with nearly 400 guests present.
Debra Jarvis, breast cancer survivor and author of the book “It’s Not About the Hair - And Other Certainties of Life and Cancer”, was the event’s keynote speaker. Pianist Michael Allen Harrison played for the event, at which survivors were honored.
Twelve men who are prominent leaders in the local community attended the luncheon, sporting pink ties to show their support of the cause. The “Pink Tie Guys” (pictured right) included Enrique Homero, Head of the Mexican Consulate and Portland Trail Blazer’s President, Larry Miller.
Susan G. Komen’s Executive Director, Christine M. McDonald, said “we had an incredible turnout at the event and are most appreciative of the community’s support. $132,000 will help us continue to provide mammograms to low-income, uninsured women and partner with community organizations throughout the state to help fulfill our promise of saving lives and ending breast cancer forever.”
The 2010 Lunch for the Cure will take place on May 18th. More details coming soon!
