Alicia Atwood recently joined the Komen team in May of 2011, but was no stranger to the organization! Having already served as a dedicated volunteer and Race for the Cure participant and fundraiser, Alicia was familiar with Komen’s mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever. Komen’s mission is particularly important to Alicia, as eight women in her life have been diagnosed with breast cancer, including three cousins and one aunt.

In her work as Administrative Assistant, Alicia is an integral member of the team supporting Affiliate staff on projects related to mission, development, events, education and more. As the person who answers Komen’s main phone line, Alicia is the first person a newly diagnosed woman may speak with after hearing that she has breast cancer, and Alicia knows the importance of lending a compassionate ear so she can be of support and provide resources. Possessing a strong background in retail management, Alicia knows how to work well under pressure and creatively and efficiently solve any problem to meet the diverse needs of customers and staff.

In her spare time Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband Ryan, their three dogs, her mom, and extended family. She loves to cook, bake, hike, snowboard, camp and spend time discovering all the beautiful scenery Oregon has to offer. Each year Alicia participates in the Race for the Cure with her team, Pink Valor. She says the strong survivors in her life have made a tremendous impact on her, and are the reason she is so passionate about breast cancer awareness.
