Komen Named #1 Best Large Nonprofit to Work for!The Oregon Business Magazine recently named the first annual 100 Best Nonprofits to Work for in Oregon, awarding the Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure the Number 1 Best Large Non-Profit to Work for in Oregon. The rankings were revealed on September 29th at a sold-out event at the Portland Art Museum, along with the October issue of the magazine, which spotlights the winners and the nonprofit sector.More than 6,700 employees at over 200 nonprofits throughout the state participated in the project. Based on the magazine’s widely regard 100 Best Companies project, the nonprofit version was created to recognized a critical business sector that employs hundreds of thousands of workers. The nonprofit project was based on Oregon Business Magazine’s 17-year-old widely recognized 100 Best Companies project. More than 6,700 employees from over 200 nonprofits and not-for-profits organizations around the state participated, and there was no cost to enter the survey. Any organization registered with the state as a nonprofit or not-for profit group was eligible as long as they had a minimum of 10 paid (full or part-time) Oregon employees. Employers ranging from faith-based groups to professional associations to charitable organizations participated in the survey. The specially designed survey was launched in late April, in partnership with nonprofit support organization TACS, and was comprised of an anonymous 50-question employee survey and an independent assessment of the nonprofit employers’ workplace practices. As a whole, employees in the nonprofit survey assigned their highest importance ratings to two workplace variables: “treatment of employees by supervisors,” and “pride and belief in the organization.” The latter item clearly reflects the mission-driven quality of nonprofit organizations and their employees, while the former speaks for itself. Nonprofit employees assessed all workplace characteristics to be of relatively high importance. Click here to read the full article from Oregon Business Magazine about Susan G.
