Affiliate Representatives Return from National Conference with Renewed Passion for the Cause
The Oregon & SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to be part of the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. The power of Komen has never been more clear than at the National Komen Affiliate Conference held in Dallas, Texas in February, which brought together nearly 1,000 representatives from approximately 125 Affiliates worldwide.
Seven representatives from our local Affiliate attended the national conference and came home with a renewed passion for the global fight to end breast cancer. The days were filled with networking and sharing best practices among Affiliates, learning about the new Susan G. Komen for the Cure brand, hearing from national sponsors regarding corporate partner programs and remembering those lost to the disease.
The local team had several opportunities to meet Nancy Brinker, Founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, including a special evening reception where our Affiliate was named the sixth largest Affiliate in the country (ranked by total fundraising dollars, excluding in-kind donations). Nancy continues to be an inspiration to our Affiliate and people everywhere.
We all had much to celebrate, including the 25th anniversary, breakthroughs in medical research and care, and the launch of a new brand to move Komen into the future. As one of the leading Affiliates in the Komen network, Oregon and SW Washington activists must continue to spread the message of hope throughout their local communities.
We won't stop fighting until we find a cure.
