Community Grantee in Action The YWCA of Salem is the proud recipient of a 2007-2008 Community Grant from the Affiliate, marking the Salem YWCA's fourth consecutive year as a Komen Grantee. With this funding they will serve low-income, medically underserved women over age 40 in Marion County by providing them access to free screenings, breast exams, mammograms and other services. The YWCA of Salem is instrumental in raising awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early screening for Spanish, Russian and English speaking women in the community. To raise additional funds, they spearhead the "Discover Pink Walk" event each year, which brings out hundreds of participants and raises thousands of dollars. The organization is in the process of moving into their new facility this fall, which will include a new Women's Health Resource Center, providing the community with even better resources. The Affiliate salutes this organization and the rest of our grantees for all they do for their communities. |
