NEW Online Grant Application Process!Community Grants - $35,000
The Komen promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. The Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate seeks to ensure that all people, regardless of race, income, geographic location, or insurance status have access to screening, quality breast cancer treatment and support services.
Community Grants are designed to help launch a program with staff to provide breast health education and outreach or to support persons with breast cancer through their treatment and survivorship.
Program Priorities are:
1. Increased “first time” screening for low income women
2. Improved cultural competency for the delivery of services
3. Increased support for persons in breast cancer treatment or survivorship
4. Increased screening access for rural women
5. Improved communication between patients and health providers
Grant applicants may not request direct funding of treatment because Komen partners with the States of Oregon and Washington in their screening programs.
Applications will only be accepted through our online grants system, GeMS, starting September 2012. For questions regarding the online application process, please contact Brooklynne Frederick, Mission Programs Assistant at 503-546-7445 or email@example.com
Based on a policy passed by the Affiliate Board of Directors in June 2011, Community Grant applicants may apply annually and receive funding for a total of five consecutive years, depending upon funds available and the performance of the grantee. After five consecutive years of funding a grantee must wait two years before applying for Community Grant funding. The Affiliate bases this new policy on its belief that five years of consecutive funding allows sufficient time for a program to develop its own sustainability.
Due to the screening & regional education (SCREEN) grants, community grant programs located in the Mid-Willamette and Southern Oregon Regions should focus on breast cancer treatment and survivor support because most education and outreach activities will be covered by the larger, regional grants. The exception would be an educational grant serving a specific target population of under-served women.
Here are the counties that are currently in the screening and regional education (SCREEN) grant cycle:
