Matt's Chemo Comfort Bags
Matt Ferguson, a high school sophomore from Hillsboro, Oregon, recently received a $2,000 mini-grant from Komen Oregon to help fund the creation of 150 comfort bags for chemotherapy patients of NW Cancer Specialists. In August of 2008, Matt's mom went in for her annual mammogram and it was discovered she had breast cancer.
Each time Matt's Mom went for treatment she would take a bag of comfort things with her. It made her time sitting in the chemo chair more comfortable. Matt noticed a lot of patients did not have such bags, which gave him the idea to create “Matt’s Chemo Comfort Bags” to give to breast cancer patients on their first day of chemotherapy. Each bag contains a fleece blanket, socks, lotion, a nail file, pad of paper and pen, a cuddly teddy bear and other items.
Matt says his mom has received wonderful care at NW Cancer Specialists, and this is his way of “paying it forward”.
