Development and Special Events

As a development and/or special event volunteer you will be contributing to our efforts to raise money for Komen so that we may continue funding grants to local community agencies for education and outreach and our screening program. 75% of every dollar raised stays in Oregon/SW Washington to fund these programs, and 25% is directed to breast cancer research on the national level.

Volunteers in development work in a variety of ways supporting our third party fundraisers, national sponsorship programs, or Komen events in either leadership or supportive volunteer positions. Below are the areas in which a volunteer would be placed:

Committee Member:  Development committee volunteers will be working on implementing giving initiatives such as: Major gifts, corporate sponsorships, 3^rd Party fundraising, national programs and direct solicitation in a team environment. This position requires a year long commitment, leadership skills and the ability to attend monthly meetings. A volunteer with experience in fundraising is required.

Special Event Coordinator:  Several Affiliate or national events need leadership volunteers to coordinate activities in the Portland Metro area, and other major cities throughout the state. This position includes jobs such as Passionately Pink for the Cure Coordinator or BMW Ultimate Drive Coordinator. This position involves an intense commitment for a period of three months or so depending upon the event.

Special Event, Day Of Volunteer: Volunteers represent Komen for the Cure at various Komen and 3^rd party events. As a Komen Representative, duties and responsibilities may include handing out Komen materials and/or 3^rd party gifts, answering questions about the event and its goals, and other duties that pertain to the specific event. Volunteers are notified of opportunities by e-mail, and usually require a four hour shift. Volunteers should be personable, outgoing and comfortable talking with the public.
